About Us

Mandy Haslam first opened Vibration Works in 2012 after being impressed by a first hand testimony of the therapeutic benefits of this kind of vertical vibration plate in overcoming back pain. After trialling a machine she was equally impressed by the fitness benefits of its rapid muscle toning.
Vibration Works uses the finest quality vibration plates in a boutique studio environment, offering instructor supported exercise for one or two persons.

Key Benefits

RAPID STRENGTH TRAINING

Strength improvement through vibration in particular, is faster than with conventional resistance training. 10 minutes is equivalent to 45 minutes of conventional gym training. Difficult to train, deep abdominal muscles can be effectively trained (important for improving posture and preventing back pain).

STRONGER BONES

Bone mineral density (BMD) peaks in our 20's and then decreases progressively over the years, particularly in women after the menopause. Vibration training is proven to increase BMD. As a low impact resistance exercise it protects joints from further wear.

FAT AND CELLULITE REDUCTION

Studies have shown basal metabolic rate increases, on average, by 21%, thereby significantly increasing fat burning potential.
A study involving regular vibration training found a 25.68% reduction in cellulite. The same vibration training programme when combined with cardiovascular exercise resulted in an average cellulite reduction of 32.3%. (Frank H. et al (2003) Anti cellulite Untersuchung)

IMPROVED BALANCE AND FLEXIBILITY

Vibration training increases activation of proprioceptors improving balance and co-ordination. It can improve walking and decrease the risk of falls in the elderly. The high frequency range can be used to enhance relaxation for muscle stretching and massage.

IMPROVED BLOOD CIRCULATION

Vibration training, rapid contraction and relaxation acts as a pump, increasing blood circulation and supply to the muscles. As a result, muscles continually receive all the nutrients and oxygenation they need in order to sustain the workout, whereas in conventional training, prolonged muscle tightening can induce a lack of oxygen.

PAIN REDUCTION

Studies have shown that vibration can reduce the perception of pain by up to 40%. It is proven to help reduce pain and fatigue amongst sufferers of fibromyalgia and alleviate chronic back pain.

Frequently Asked Questions

NEED TO KNOW

Home: FAQ

How does vibration training work?

The Vibrogym is based on the principle of whole body vibration (WBV). WBV produces a vibration which transfers energy to the body causing a stretch reflex stimulating muscles to contract up to 40 times a second depending on the frequency selected (25Hz to 40Hz). This will fatigue the muscles and stimulate them to strengthen to withstand the increased effort. For instance, in a 1 minute exercise at 40Hz WBV, your muscle will have contracted 60x40=2400 times.

A session can achieve effective training of the muscles of the whole body. This is because vibration training can stimulate more muscle simultaneously. In addition to achieving rapid results WBV can train infrequently used muscles that are normally difficult to train because they cannot be consciously activated.

Who is it for?

Not into the gym – “Vibration Works” is for you. It is a small private studio gym where only one or two people exercise at a time.

No time to exercise – “Vibration Works” is for you. Results are fast; just 10 minutes can make a difference. Perspiration is minimal so there is no necessity to shower and change afterwards.

High performance athlete – “Vibration Works” is for you.The vibrating platform was developed with Olympic athletes in mind; originally to improve jump height in Russian volleyball players. It will build strength and endurance and will speed up recovery. It is now used by professional football and rugby clubs and the Royal ballet to optimise performance. Vibrogym programmes can be adapted to train for specific sports e.g. golf, netball, skiing.

Older adult, unfit or rehabilitating after injury - "Vibration Works" is for you. It is safe and exercises do not require a high level of mobility; they can be performed statically. This is particularly beneficial for those with joint concerns, be it through arthritis, injury or being overweight. It is a muscular rather than cardio vascular exercise form that won't leave you feeling breathless.

It should be avoided by those who are pregnant, have a pacemaker fitted or have cancerous tumours. Other conditions may be subject to the client's doctor's advice.

How do I try it?

Booking is essential. Call/text Mandy on 07584 654416
or call 01983 719508

What should I bring and wear?

Bring a drink; the exercise combined with increased blood circulation requires a good level of hydration.

Any clothing that allows for free movement is suitable.

Footwear can be trainers or similar flat shoes or simply socks.

What Covid-19 safety measures are in place?

  • Hand sanitiser is available for use by both instructor and client at the start of each session.

  • Bacteria, pollutants and odours are filtered through a Dyson air purifier.

  • Touch points are regularly cleaned.

  • Sessions are on a one to one basis or clients can exercise with a friend or partner. There is a 3 person maximum limit in the gym.

  • Anyone with a 28 day pass, testing positive for Covid-19, can have their pass extended by their isolation period.
